Paulo Fernandes holds a degree in International Relations from the School of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP) of the Technical University of Lisbon and is currently the Mayor of Fundão.
As expert consultant in Regional and Local Development, he coordinated several projects for the Integrated Rural Development under several European programs (eg: INTEGRATE, POEDS, RURIS, AIBT, PRODER …) and was head of project within the EU Initiatives INTERREG and Now. He also founded the European Network for Abandoned Mines (Europamines), the Portuguese network of FAB LABS with MIT cooperation and the Urban Network for Competitiveness of Beira Interior Region.
He collaborated in the creation and national dissemination of the Collective Efficiency Strategy – Economic Enhancement of Endogenous Resources Program (PROVERE) under QREN. He was also Project chief of PROVERE BUY NATURE that promotes the nature tourism in classified areas of the East Center of Portugal.
